Wardrobes

Wardrobes were extremely rare storage items in rural Crete, because they were large and expensive, and did not correspond to the needs of an impoverished society during the Turkish occupation. The few examples we have been able to find probably date from the 18th century.

They are simple constructions of pinewood, decorated with applied cornices on the upper and lower part of the wardrobe. We only found one very simply decorated wardrobe set in a wall as a fixture.
