Ducts
Chimney. A fireplace chimney made of interconnecting lengths to the necessary height.
Koundouto. A conduit for draining rainwater into a tank.16th century.
12th-century drain. Found in the same area as items 28 and 29.
BUILDING MATERIALS
Brick. Bricks were rarely used in rural Crete because stone was widely available and mortar was expensive. Bricks are made in a small clay mould.
Roof-tile. Cretan roofs were rarely tiled, due to the high cost of tiles and cement. Houses generally had mud roofs, while domed churches had thick plaster roofs. Old Cretan roof-tiles were slanted, with lines drawn with the finger and in one case with a cylinder seal and incision.
