Benches

In Crete, the bench has always been a rough seat necessary for seating large numbers of people at various gatherings such as religious festivals, weddings etc. It consisted of a long board seat set on trestles or stools. The table used with these benches was called a tavla (board), as it too was of rudimentary construction. No benches have been preserved to our days, as their trestles and boards have been put to other uses.
