HapticSOUND Program

Introduction

The Museum of Cretan Ethnology participated in the Program “System of analysis, documentation and demonstration of traditional musical instruments of the Museum of Cretan Ethnology” (HapticSOUND), which was implemented within the framework of the Special Program of the General Secretariat of Research and Innovation, with the cooperation of the University of Macedonia (responsible Professor Mavridis), and collaboration with the University of Western Macedonia and the DATASCOUTING E.E. Company.
The Program of ethnomuseological research, recording and documentation of Cretan musical instruments, especially the lyre, the lute and the ascomandura, was carried out throughout Crete under the supervision of the Director of the Museum Chr. Vallianou and the archaeologist D. Hatzi-Vallianou, mainly with the collaboration of 3 young researchers: the archaeologists N. Lokos and V. Vlachos and the musicologist P. Kontogouris.
They collaborated on the Collection – ethnographic documentation and recording of information and techniques for traditional musical instruments, both through live, on-site research, collections and interviews throughout Crete, as well as through bibliographic research in libraries and electronic media.

Thus, a unique Archive of more than 1000 creators-manufacturers of the said musical instruments and instrumentalists was created in the MKE, in the historical context of the last 100 years, some samples of which were included on the MKE website.
